Welcoming Art Deco Gate and Doorway

The welcoming set up of an Art Deco style gate and floral theme doorway, flanked by two stylised Egyptian papyrus columns adorning a small mid-1930s home in Foisor area of Bucharest (©Valentin Mandache)

I like the sense of harmony and domestic peace exuded by the balanced human proportions of this Art Deco entrance assembly design. The concrete made papyrus columns, decorated with vertical rows of dark red ceramic triangles (inspired from the ancient Egyptian mythology “rule of three”, popular in Art Deco ornamentation) complete wonderfully the attractive ironwork of the small gate and the floral design of the doorway.

I endeavor through this daily series of images and small articles to inspire appreciation of the historic houses of Romania, a virtually undiscovered, but fascinating chapter of European architectural history and heritage.

If you plan acquiring a historic property in Romania or start a renovation project, I would be delighted to advice you in sourcing the property, specialist research, planning permissions, restoration project management, etc. To discuss your particular plan please see my contact details in the Contact page of this weblog.
