The appearance of this delightful Bucharest Art Deco doorway, dating from the first half of the 1930s, is very much that of a steam boat machine room access door, a theme part of the inter-war ocean cruise liner decorative panoply of subjects peculiar to the Art Deco style suggesting the longing to travel to exotic shores of the people of that period. It makes a refreshing contrast with the continental climate and environment of this city located in the middle of the Lower Danube prairie, far away from sea ports.
