Neglected Neo-Romanian style frieze and facade defaced by ignorant renovations in full disregard of heritage protection laws and rules, an ubiquitous scene in the whole of Bucharest, the fifth largest EU capital, but just in name, certainly not in civilisation. Pseudo-Wallachian portals of Maramures wooden churches from the collection of Sighetul Marmatiei Ethnographic Museum. #portal #woodenchurch #wallachian #pseudowallachian #maramures #sighetulmarmatiei #ethnographicmuseum #sputheasteurope #casedeepoca #valentinmandache
This is probably the most valuable art assembly of the town of Buzau in SE Romania: sculptor Constantin Brancusi’s Prayer monument, a tomb in Dumbrava cemetery. It was installed in 1914, one year after the New York’s Armoury Show, which brought worldwide fame to this artist. The female statue is a copy, the original being kept at the Nationals Museum of Art in Bucharest. The copy was stolen numerous times in the 1990s and the 2000s when the locals thought they could get rich over the night on the Western art markets, which prompted the authorities to write clearly on the plinth that is not an original, and thus put a stop to thieving. #prayer #rugaciune #brancusi #constantinbrancusi #dumbrava #cemetery #buzau #southeasteurope #balkans #casedeepoca #valentinmandache

An unusually long table and benches, made from single trunks of oak, like the ship masts, unfurling on the full length of the southern side of Rogoz wooden church (built in the 17th c), in Lapus Country/ Maramures. The table is called the Elders’ Table (‘Masa Mosilor’ in Ro), used for communal festival meals, and protected from inclement weather by an ample roof eave. #oaktable #woodenchurch #rogoz #taralapusului #maramures #southeasteurope #casedeepoca #valentinmandache
